ISKCON holds pooja to appease rain god

BANGALORE:Just when the Chief Minister is busy appeasing gods for rainfall, the Citybased International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) had organised a special puja to lord Jaganatha, Baladeva and goddess Subhadra at Venkateshwara temple in Sheshadripuram. The puja was held from 7 am to 11 am with priests offering several sacrifices to the fire, while over 200 devotees singing Haridasa keerthanas. A special puja and ratha yatra were organised in the evening.

Elaborating on the two-day Jaganatha Habba Vibhav Krishna Das of ISKCON said, the puja, ‘Krishna Nama Sankeerthana’ is being conducted after a span of 39 years. “In 1970, founder of the religious organisation Acharya Bhakti Vedanta Swamy Prabhupada performed the pooja at Andhra Pradesh when there was a severe drought, and the same is being held now,” he said.

MP B Chandregowda who was the chief guest on this occasion said the religious event is much needed considering the apprehensions of scanty rainfall. He suggested that such pujas should be organised across the State.
